You’re confirmed as a guest on the Beyond Consultation Podcast!
“What do I need to do to prepare?”
Sort your technology and somewhere quiet
If possible, source yourself a microphone. You need one that plugs into your computer via USB or the audio jack. If you can’t get hold of one, don’t worry - your laptop mic will be just fine.
Organise to be somewhere quiet with good internet on the day. This will help ensure you sound great on the podcast.
Brainstorm some topics to discuss
We also recommend brainstorming some stories or topics you would like to share. Remember, podcasting is not live radio. It’s a casual conversation and we can edit out your um’s and ah’s. It’s also not a speech so please don’t prepare a written monologue either; we will simply interrupt you if that happens.
“What questions will you ask?”
I don’t have a set of pre-prepared questions that I roll out for every guest.
However, each interview generally has three phases:
Who are you? Here we’ll get to know each other a little bit. I might ask about your upbringing and how that shaped you. Or maybe I’ll ask about the career experiences that have influenced you. Our listeners like to know more than just what’s in your 300-word biography.
Open discussion. The main part of the interview will be an open discussion about topics that we agree you want to talk about. We’ll agree on these before we start recording. I don’t script these questions and they are different for every guest.
Closing up. I’ll usually ask if you have any final thoughts to add, and invite you to let listeners know where to learn more about you. If you are promoting a book/event/course now is the time to say so!
I look forward to hearing more of your story soon!
Ngā mihi,
Paul and the Business Lab team
